Oftentimes, our clients will approach us and ask us this one simple question: Should I (or my brand) be on Instagram? Our answer is always the same: Yes, absolutely.
But, I don’t want you to just take us at our word and blindly go create an Instagram profile… and then stop dead in your tracks because you have no idea what to do.
Let’s take a look at a bit of data first:
Research done by Pew Research Center shows that 35% of U.S. Adults are active on Instagram (making it the third largest Platform, after Youtube and Facebook). To put it in perspective, that means that in the U.S. alone, more than 114 million people are active on Instagram. The same research also shows that Instagram is one of the most active and engaged social media platforms available with over 60% of its users who use the app daily! Another 21% visit the application at least weekly.
Instagram also did some research and found that their users spend about 25 minutes each day scrolling through their feed and engaging with content.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, this means that businesses that can leverage Instagram are able to reach a significant number of people for an extended period of time EACH DAY! And most of the time, you can do this for free! It really is a marketers dream come true!
If you are not convinced yet, here are 4 reasons why your brand should be on Instagram.
You are selling products or services
Instagram reported that 80% of its users follow at least one brand. The number one reason why is because they are interested in that brand’s products or services. That means that users follow businesses when they are shopping around (or at least, considering a purchase).
Data reported from Instagram suggests that their conversion rate is around 1.08%. As we can see in Smart Insights conversion rate report, that’s the highest of all reported social media platforms (they combined Instagram and Facebook in their charts). Pinterest is the second social media platform with 0.36%.
Not only is the conversion rate higher than any other social platform, Instagram is also hard at work to increase it even more. That’s why they introduced Shoppable feeds in 2017, and they’re rolling it out as we speak.
Your followers are dedicated, engaged brand ambassadors
Social media has the tremendous power of helping people become genuine content creators and brand influencers.
If you are able to leverage the right people, (who are equally passionate about your brand as you are) this can really be a huge benefit for your brand.
Scott Kelly once wrote that it only takes 1,000 true fans to become successful in business, and with the power of Instagram, that can be achieved very quickly.
People who are loyal to your brand (who become real ambassadors) are happy to share your content on Instagram or create content with the help of your products. They will also then tag you in their images or videos. Research shows that 1 in 4 online shoppers are influenced by recommendations or reviews found on social media. So it stands without reason that having a strong social presence will likely lead to increased sales. Finding your loyal followers (influencers) will help you provide social proof and expand your customer base.
You can build relationships and create a community around your brand
On Instagram, (and any social platform for that matter) it is important that you listen to what your audience is talking about. Not only will this help you find out which type of content you need to create, but it’ll also help you identify issues (and give customer service) or find business opportunities before anyone else.
Instagram allows for you to engage with your audience and monitor what they’re saying. Responding timely and with authenticity will create a loyal audience. When done properly, this will create a vibrant community around your brand. And that’s when you stand out from the crowd and from your competitors.
You will connect with the customers of tomorrow
The so-called “millennials” are now the largest generation in U.S. history, with roughly 92 million people between the age of 15 and 35. And it happens to be the biggest group of users on Instagram, as 60% of the users are between 18 and 29.
Trend studies from Bigcommerce suggest that Millenials spend six hours shopping online each week. And that makes them by far the biggest group of online shoppers! If a younger generation is your target demographic, it’s safe to say that Instagram is the place to use in order to connect with them (otherwise another company will take your spot)!
And even if your target demographic is one that consists of people older than 35, getting on Instagram now and establishing a presence means that people can become aware of your brand, product or services, and turn into customers later in their life!
As bold as I may seem to make this statement, there is no reason why your brand shouldn’t be using Instagram. There are only two things that stand in between you and your customers on Instagram, and that is time and knowledge!
